Hey Snails Inc., a California-based game developer, recently launched two new games for Facebook at the GDC Play Event in San Francisco. The company was founded by Redentor “Red” Quiambo, a “social games evangelist” and former engineer for Facebook games giant Zynga who worked on casual gaming favorites such as FarmVille, Scramble, WordTwist, and Zynga Poker. His co-founder and partner is Harold Khan, an artist and technology guru with a knack for graphic and web design. This dynamic duo has developed two very different but fun looking games, Letter UP and Hey Snails Virtual World.
Letter UP is a familiar looking word board game, but supports multiplayer (up to four players) and is played in real time, a feature many have found exciting, and the game is already being adapted for mobile devices. Within a week of the beta being launched, the game had over a thousand installs on Facebook and continues to enjoy rapid growth.
Younger gamers on Facebook will be interested in Hey Snails Virtual World, which offers a bright, fun, and interactive online world where they can chat with their friends, play games, and get to know the loveable characters of the Hey Snails world. Each character has their own unique personality, and the world is filled with funny tricks, nifty animations, and of course, plenty of games. With the Dreamworks film “Turbo” coming out later this year, featuring a plucky young garden snail who loves to race, Hey Snails expects a lot of traffic coming their way.
